Part 1 — Lessons (15)

1. Community Helpers

Community helpers are people who do important jobs to help us all.

We say “thank you” to show we are grateful for their help.

2. My Family

A family is a group of people who care for one another. It may include a mother, father, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Families help us by giving us love, food, a home and lessons about right and wrong.

Try this: Name three people in your family and one way they help you.

3. My School

A school is a place where we learn. We have teachers, classmates and a principal.

At school we read, write, count, play and make friends. We follow rules so everyone can learn safely.

Try this: What is one thing you like best about your school?

4. Rules at Home and School

Rules tell us how to behave so we stay safe and treat others kindly.

When we follow rules, everyone is happier and safer.

5. The Family — Our First Community

What is a family?

A family is a group of people who love and care for each other. Families can look different: some have a mother and father, some have one parent, some have grandparents, aunts or guardians. What makes a family is love and care.

Every family member has a role. Parents or guardians earn money, cook, clean and make decisions. Children go to school, help at home, and learn. Grandparents share wisdom.

Your family is your first community — the first group you belong to.
