1. Solid, Liquid and Gas
Everything around us is made of matter, and matter comes in three states:
- Solid — keeps its shape (a stone, a book).
- Liquid — flows and takes the shape of its container (water, juice).
- Gas — spreads out to fill all the space (the air, steam).
Water can be all three: ice (solid), water (liquid), steam (gas).
2. Habitats: Where Animals Live
A habitat is the home where a plant or animal naturally lives and finds food, water and shelter.
- A fish lives in water.
- A bird may live in a tree.
- A crab lives near the shore.
If an animal loses its habitat, it can no longer find what it needs.
3. The Life Cycle of a Plant
A plant grows in stages, called its life cycle:
- A seed is planted.
- It germinates (sprouts) and grows roots and a shoot.
- It becomes a young plant, then a grown plant with leaves.
- It makes flowers, then seeds — and the cycle starts again.
4. The Butterfly Life Cycle (Picture)
A butterfly changes through four stages. This is called its life cycle.
An egg hatches into a caterpillar, which forms a chrysalis, and out comes a butterfly — then the cycle begins again.
5. Magnets
A magnet can pull (attract) objects made of iron or steel, like nails and paper clips.
It does not attract wood, plastic, paper or glass.
A magnet has two ends called poles — north and south. Opposite poles pull together; the same poles push apart.
