Part 1 — Lessons (17)
1. Living and Non-living Things
Living things grow, need food and water, and can move on their own — like people, animals and plants.
Non-living things do not grow, eat or breathe — like a rock, a chair or a cup.
Try this: Is a tree living or non-living? (Living — it grows and needs water and sunlight.)
2. Our Five Senses
We learn about the world using our five senses:
- Sight — we see with our eyes.
- Hearing — we hear with our ears.
- Smell — we smell with our nose.
- Taste — we taste with our tongue.
- Touch — we feel with our skin.
Try this: Which sense tells you a mango is sweet? (Taste.)
3. Parts of My Body
Your body has many parts that each help you.
Your legs help you walk and run. Your arms and hands help you hold and carry. Your head holds your brain, which helps you think.
Try this: Point to your elbow, your knee, and your shoulder.
4. Animals and Their Babies
Baby animals often have special names.
- A baby dog is a puppy.
- A baby cat is a kitten.
- A baby cow is a calf.
- A baby hen is a chick.
Animals grow up to look like their parents.
5. Float or Sink
Some things float on water and some things sink to the bottom.
A light, hollow thing like a leaf or a plastic cup often floats. A heavy thing like a stone or a coin often sinks.
Try this: Guess first, then test with safe objects in a basin of water. Were you right?
